Is your Partner Hesitant to go to Couples Counselling- Here's how to Encourage Them!

Couples counselling can carry a stigma. A misconception being that people can associate it with failure. It is crucial to break down this stigma, as couples counselling is more effective with an accurate understanding of what it is.

1. Let your partner know that therapy is safe.

There is no side taking in therapy. The therapist helps clarify both sides of a situation and allows both parties to be heard without judgement.

2. Note the benefits.

It can improve communication, as you learn to be more receptive to one another's words, feelings, thoughts, and expressions of emotions in a healthy way. Communication skills can reduce conflicts. Further, you can learn conflict resolution strategies in a safe environment to be able to apply at home.

3. It can be a preventative measure.

It can provide tools for maintenance of the relationship so problematic patterns do not develop in the relationship. More so, it can also help both parties find strategies to give support to one another to avoid later problems.
